Powerhouse brand Nike became the first big sports brand to create sustainable maternity wear. The range, titled Nike M, is part of the brands movement to zero climate impact and is able to be worn whilst pregnant and after giving birth. It will became available to women around the world on September 17.
An all female Nike design team created the collection alongside 30 elite and amateur athletes to understand their needs for effective maternity wear. Additionally, the brand made use of more than 150,000 body scans of varied women to guarantee the range was diverse and inclusive.
One of the athletes Nike worked with is British track and field Olympian Perri Edwards, who described the collection as “a godsend.”
The entire range is made from sustainable materials, including recycled polyester and organic cotton. Nike has had a big year of sustainable product releases and is continuing to utilise new materials and technologies that are longer lasting and have lower environmental impact.
