Brand/Designer Info:

Christian Dior founded his fashion house on 16 December 1946 on the Avenue Montaigne Paris, the Avenue where Dior is still headquartered today. In a post war context of deprivation and rationing, Dior had just one obsession: to allow women to rediscover joy, elegance, and beauty. On February 12, 1947, Dior presented his debut haute couture collection, which was immediately dubbed as the “New Look” by Carmel Snow, the former Editor-in Chief of American “Harper’s Bazaar”. Its most prominent features included rounded shoulders, a cinched waist, a full, A-line skirt. With its clearly articulated feminine silhouette, the “Bar” suit was one of the most recognized ensembles of the late 40’s and early 50’s.

In 1955, 19-year-old Yves Saint Laurent became Dior’s Design Assistant. Despite its globalisation, Dior’s strategy for success remains rooted in the creativity, detail orientation, and the savoir-faire that first distinguished its atelier. Christian Dior is a unique workplace. Skilled craftspeople with excess of 30 years of service welcome and train a new generation of employees in the Dior ateliers. Dior strongly fosters multiculturalism and believes diversity stimulates creativity. A strong focus on gender equality has resulted in women representing 62% of Dior’s regional leadership teams.
