Austrian Helmut Lang began his eponymous brand in 1977 in Vienna. In 1998 Helmut Lang relocated his company from Vienna to New York. He worked in fashion for almost 30 years before retiring to become an artist in Long Island, New York. Lang has been described as the premier minimalist, introducing us to a raw, stripped down, architectural silhouette, and a colour palette of black, white, and earthy neutrals. His marketing was similarly groundbreaking, Lang was the first designer to live stream a runway show on the Internet, and the first to advertise on taxi cabs. Lang’s designs continue to remain relevant and desirable, regularly appearing in photo shoots.
