Brand/Designer Info:
Kate Spade and her husband Andy started the kate spade new york brand in New York in 1993. Prior to starting her handbag brand, Kate Spade was the accessories editor at mademoiselle magazine. Ms Spade set out to design the perfect handbag, and started with just six silhouettes. Kate made six prototypes with sticky tape and paper, and found a manufacturer in East New York willing to take a risk with a start up brand to produce the bags.
Kate Spade combined sleek, utilitarian shapes and colourful palettes in an entirely new way, and so kate spade new york was born. Their handbags became a universal symbol of happy-go-lucky chic, and the company soon swelled into other product categories.
